Dr. Lorne E. Parker
President
Dr. Lorne E. Parker has a doctoral degree in policy studies from the University of Alberta and over 25 years of teaching and senior executive experience in public and post-
secondary education. In his most recent role as Assistant Superintendent of Edmonton Public Schools, Dr. Parker oversaw an annual operating budget of approximately
$100 million and a capital budget in excess of $300 million, and successfully developed and implemented an infrastructure plan designed to address a $1 billion deferred
infrastructure maintenance deficit.
Today, he is a regular speaker at local, national and international leadership conferences and serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan.
His research interest is focused on changing culture and operational effectiveness through a data driven change leadership model. He is actively involved in community and
international humanitarian service initiatives, most recently leading school construction projects in Mozambique.
Dr. Wei Li
Associate
Dr. Wei Li has a doctoral degree in education from the University of Alberta and over 28 years experience in public education. From 1991 to 2008, Dr. Li served as a Mandarin bilingual teacher, program coordinator and acting assistant principal and principal with the Edmonton Pubic School Board. In 2008, he transitioned to the Confucius Institute in Edmonton, serving initially as the Assistant Director and then Director of the Institute for 11 years.
Dr. Li’s primary area of expertise is second language education, having conducted extensive research in teaching and learning a second language. With over 28 years experience in this field, which includes teaching assignments at elementary, secondary and post secondary levels, he has become a sought-after speaker at national and international Chinese bilingual education conferences, most recently presenting at second language conferences in Canada, the United States and China. During his tenure as Director of the Confucius Institute in Edmonton, Dr. Li has received international recognition for his contribution to Chinese culture and language education.
In addition to leading the daily operations of the Institute, he has hosted numerous cultural events for students and the broader community, annually provided Chinese language proficiency testing for over 1,400 students, hosted the Chinese Bridge competitions, conducted teacher training, and hosted numerous international summer camps for students. Dr. Li is highly effective at building broad networks of support, most notably with post-secondary institutes and international levels of government.

Darwin Martin
Senior Associate
Darwin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Alberta, and an Executive Masters Degree in Project Management from the Schulich School of Business, York University. He has more than 32 years of experience in K-12 education, serving in a variety of teaching and leadership roles at the school and division level. Darwin was most recently the Managing Director of Technology and Information Management for Edmonton Public Schools, serving 214
schools and over 103,000 students. In this role, Darwin was responsible for a team of 150 professionals, leading the school division in all aspects of technology, records management, student data and FOIP.
Darwin is a results-oriented leader, with a focus on using data to lead change initiatives and process improvements. Darwin is recognized as an innovator in the field of educational technology, and has presented at many provincial, national and international conferences. Darwin has served as a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta and the University of British Columbia. A master teacher, Darwin was awarded the Prime Minister's Teaching Award of Excellence, one of fifteen teachers in Canada recognized for their innovative teaching practices.
Mike Suderman
Senior Associate
Mike Suderman has served several years as an Assistant Superintendent with the Edmonton Public School Board, providing educational leadership to a division consisting of approximately 9000 staff members and 104,000 students. He has over 30 years of experience in K-12
education, serving in a variety of teaching and leadership roles at the school and division level. Mike completed his post-secondary studies at the University of Alberta, achieving two degrees in the field of education.
Mike’s particular area of expertise is building high functioning leadership teams, ensuring students and staff are provided with the best possible learning environments. He has been very effective at developing and implementing Assurance Frameworks that are focused on continual improvement. Mike’s background also includes extensive work in curricula and resource development, including accelerated and enrichment programs for gifted and talented students.
Mike’s awards include the Galan-Weston Award for academic improvement at the elementary level, as well as Model Professional Learning C certification for Vernon Barford Junior High. In 2011, he was part of the leadership group that earned the Network 9 Principal Group Award from the Association for School Curriculum and Development (ASCD). He is also a member of the Council of Alberta School Superintendents.

Liu Xiangfei
Associate
Mr. Liu Xiangfei has a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the Ocean University of China and over seventeen years of experience teaching English at the post-secondary level. His professional background also includes serving in a leadership role with the Department of International Affairs, Shandong Education Ministry, followed by an international teaching
assignment in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
His primary area of expertise is second language education, helping Chinese students learn English and Canadian students learn Chinese. His academic credentials include conducting extensive research in second language teaching and the publishing of several academic papers and articles. And he has also served as a team leader for two teaching research projects. Internationally, in addition to his teaching assignment in Canada, he has coordinated numerous international education exchanges and facilitated program cooperation with various learning institutions.
He is a fully engaged educator whom has a passion for international education. He has established strong professional learning networks across China and Canada, which he would like to put to work for you. Networks that range across all levels of education, from primary to post-secondary, including Ministries of Education.
